Dilapidated condition of buildings: 60,000 students of govt primary schools in Barisal attending classes with risks

More than sixty thousand students of government primary schools in Barisal district attending classes with risks due to dilapidated conditions of school buildings.
It was alleged that using low quality construction materials made the school buildings risk prone within two decades.
Towhidul Islam, district primary education officer, said Barisal district has 1,513 government primary schools.
The conditions of the 189 school buildings with more than 60 thousand students enlisted as risky by the department.
Construction and repairing works of 146 out of 189 schools already started and rest 43 would be done in near future, he added.
However after visiting the spot and talking with the school authourities it was learnt that although construction and repairing works of 143 schools started, but students still have to attend classes in risk-prone portions of the schools due to space crisis.
The building of Kawnia government municipal primary school at ward-2 of the city corporation has more than 400 students. The building of the school was constructed in 1994, but became risk prone within two decades.
Construction of the new building started, but works going on slow pace and so students still attending classes at risky building, said Baby Haldar, headmaster of the school.
In last week four students became injured after portion of plaster from the dilapidated building fall on them. Students also loosing interest to attend classes with risk in a broken building, she added.
Students of Sirajia government primary school behind the Barisal Sher E Bangla Primary School, Chahuta primary school at city skirt also found with same condition.
