Staff Reporter :Around 6000 people, including 542 children, have been trafficked from the country in last four years, says a report of ‘Human Trafficking and Monitoring Cell’ of the Police Headquarters.The cop members also rescued 2,429 victims during the period. Of them, 342 were rescued in 2012, 377 in 2013, 682 in 2014 and 1,028 in 2015, says the report.The report was revealed at a discussion programme titled ‘World Anti-human Trafficking Day’ at CIRDAP Auditorium in the city on Saturday. The US-AID Bangladesh, Winnerk International, UNODC, UNHCR, BRAC Justice and Care, BNWLA and Wakfa jointly arranged the programme.Youth and Sports Ministry Joint-Secretary Md Umar Faruk said, “We should spread our activities from the city to remote areas by raising voice against the human trafficking.” The government has already formulated an act to check the trafficking from the country. But the application to check it almost failed due to lack of awareness, he said. He requested the people to be united in a platform in order to fight against human trafficking. Women and Children Affairs Ministry Joint Secretary Md Aminul Islam and Women and Child Education Center’s President Professor Israt Shamim, among others, also took part on the discussion.
