BARI wheat-25, 26 cultivation gaining popularity: 6,000 farmers cultivating Rabi crops in Gopalganj

The cultivation of BARI Wheat- 25 and 26 has been gaining popularity among the farmers in nine unions under Muksudpur Upazila in Gopalganj district.
 About 6,000 farmers in the upazila are now cultivating the crop during this Robi seasons.
According to Muksudpur Upazila Agriculture Office , about 3,000 hectares of land have been brought under BARI wheat 25 & 26 cultivation where production target fixed at 9,000 metric tonnes (MT). Sources further said, they distributed seed and fertilizers among 550 poor farmers in the upazila.
Md. Alam Molla (45), a wheat farmer of Bhahirbagh in Pashargati Union under Muksudpur upazila told journalists that he has a target to cultivate wheat on 2 bighas of land this season and is hopeful of attaining expected out of the produce last season he also got a yield of wheat which encouraged him to cultivate it on a large scale during this season, he added.
Dr. Md. Mosharraf Hossain, Upazila Agriculture Officer, Muksudpur told The New Nation BARI wheat 25 and 26 is more profitable comparatively any other crops and farmers can early harvest in a short duration from planting. He also said, farmers will achieve if the weather condition is continuing favourable. Besides Agriculture officials rendering field level services to lead the farmers know about the “Latest Agriculture Technology”, he added.
Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) and others commercial bank, Goapalganj are distributing short terms loan to the farmers for success the cultivation of BARI wheat 25 and 26.
