After examining records and witnesses, Sylhet Metropolitan Session’s Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha pronounced the verdict in the much-discussed case at 12:50 pm in a crowded courtroom.
The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer to three months more RI.
The court also acquitted three accused — Firoz Miah, Asmot Ali alias Asmot Ullah and Ruhul Amin alias Ruhel — as allegations brought against them were not proved.
A total of 36 witnesses gave their deposition before the court from October 1 till October 18 in the murder case. On October 15, fugitive accused Kamrul was brought home from Saudi Arabia.
The killers themselves took the video footage of the killing incident. The video clip went viral on social networking site Facebook and video-sharing site Youtube which triggered a widespread outcry.
Expressing satisfaction over the death sentence against the accused, Rajon’s father Sheikh Azizur Alam said, “I’m very happy over this judgment and justice has been established through the verdict. I’ll be happier after their execution.”
