6 sent to jail for illegal tree cutting in Thakurgaon

Six people were sent to jail on Saturday on charges of illegally cutting down roadside trees in Danarhat area under Begunbari union of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.
They are — Dilip Chandra (28), Ranjit Kumar (33), Gopal Chandra Roy (28), Binu Chandra (35), Amitra Roy (40) and Suresh Chandra Roy (38), our Thakurgaon correspondent reports, quoting police.
They hailed from different villages of Kaharole upazila of Dinapur, said Tanvirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Tipped off, a police team launched a drive in Danarhat area yesterday morning, arrested the six and recovered the four cut trees from the spot, said the OC.
Later, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah Al Mamun visited the spot.
Ripon Kumar Shaha, assistant land officer of Begunbari union, filed a case accusing the six arrestees with Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station on Friday evening.
The arrestees were sent to jail by a district court today, said Robiul Islam, sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station.
