Tender snatching: 6 ruling party men held

The Rapid Action Battalion [RAB] arrested six ruling party men for their alleged involvement in snatching tender for construction of a Purbachal City project of Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakkaha [RAJUK] amounting to Taka 350 crore on Thursday afternoon.
Witnesses said, the arrestees are leaders and activists of Jubo League and Chhatra League. They were identified as Manik, Selim and Tuhin of Jubo League and central leaders of Chhatra League Sohel and Russell. The incident took place at about 3:00pm inside of RAJUK Bhaban, said Commanding Officer of RAB-3 Golam Sarwar.
He said, “RAJUK invited the tender for the construction of ‘internal road and surface drain’ under Purbachal City Project . The ruling party caders threatened the general contractors when they went there to drop tender. They also resisted them to submit tender schedules. Later, we conducted operation and arrested six persons getting formal complaint from the contractors.” According to a source, yesterday was the last date of tender dropping. About six contracting farms, including Jubo League South organizing secretary Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan, BADC jubo league leader Md Mizan and Awami League leader Nixon Chowdhury dropped tender in favour of their farms. At one stage of submission, a gang of cadres of Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan tried to snatch away the tender box at gun point, the sources said.
Motijheel Police admitted about the incident, but refused to divulge any information about the snatching.
