Police arrested six robbers while feeling after committing robbery in a boat at Kalitala Ghat in Sariakandi upazila on Thursday.
The arrestees were identified as Aminur,22, son of Torab Sheikh, Aynal Sheikh, 40, son of Maru Sheikh of Charshishua village, Jashim, 30, son of Jamal of Kalirchar village, Barik, 40, son of Fazar Ali of Fazilpur village of Sariakandi upazila, Shamim, 32, son of Lal Fakir and Azim Fakir, 32, son of Abdur Rauf of Tegharia village in Madarganj thana.
Sources said a gang of robbers intercepted a boat with 30 passengers aboard while it was going to the western side of the Jamuna river from Gothail ghat in Jamalpur and looted valuables after keeping the boat passengers hostage at gunpoint.
The looted valuables would be worth Tk 5 lakh.
They also beat up some passengers.
On information, police conducted a drive in the area and arrested six robbers with the help of local people while they were trying to flee after committing robbery.
However, the other robbers managed to flee with the booty.
