Terming the six-point demand as the charter of Bangalees’ emancipation and the ‘Magna Carta’, Awami League Advisory Council member Dr SA Malek on Saturday said history bore the testimony to the fact that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman did not commit any mistake by announcing the six-point demand.
The senior Awami League leader said this while speaking as the chairperson at a discussion in the city.
Bangabandhu Parishad organised the discussion at its central office at Kalabagan in the capital marking the historic six-point day (7 June). Dhaka University Teachers’ Association leader Prof Dr Akhteruzzaman and Bangabandhu Parishad leaders Advocate Abdus Salam, Advocate Deedar Ali and Mohammad Shahidullah were the discussants.
The speakers said Bangladesh emerged as an independent and sovereign country in the community of nations because of the historic six-point demand raised by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
They said many politicians were of the opinion that Bangabandhu would not be able to retain his political entity following his announcement of the six-point demand but the reality was that Sheikh Mujib emerged as Bangabandhu, father of the nation and the greatest Bangalee of all time for the six-point demand concept.
