6 new police stations set up in Sylhet

The highway police has proposed to have one police station at a distance of 36 km from the highway. The proposal has already been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs through the police headquarters. After the proposal is passed, 72 new police stations will start operating across the country, including six in Sylhet. Apart from this, a plan has been taken to buy high-quality vehicles. It is also proposed to buy two helicopters.
The six police stations of Sylhet division are Charkhai, Fenchuganj in Sylhet’s Biyanibazar upazila, Bholaganj in Companyganj upazila, Madhavpur in Habiganj, Kulaura in Moulvibazar and Jamalganj in Sunamganj. According to sources, another proposal has been sent for the purchase of vehicles for the highway police of 72 more police stations in the country. The proposal includes 21 jeeps, 1 command vehicle, 1 operation vehicle jeep, 482 patrol cars, 143 ambulances, 580 motorcycles (750 cc), 109 wreckers, 10 trucks (5 tons), 2 cranes, 22 microbuses, 11 minibuses and 2 helicopters. Apart from that, 1308 ordinary citizens are expected to be appointed. Plans have been made to set up new police stations and install high-powered closed-circuit (CC) TV cameras at important locations on every highway to prevent accidents, monitor the movement of criminals and monitor police activities, along with ensuring passenger safety and smooth traffic flow.
