Six mass graves of 27 heroic sons who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War in 1971 at Kamanna under Sailkupa Upapzila in Jhenaidah ha been lying uncared for years for want of proper maintenance.
Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsadh Sailkupa upzila unit observe the day anyhow that had created massive agitation among the family members of the martyred of Sailkupa in Jhenaidah and Hazipur in neighboring Magura district.
Momin, Kader, Sahidul, Soleman, Razzaque, Wahed, Riaz, Alamgir, Motleb, Ali Hossain, Sariful Islam, Anisur, Alimuzzaman, Tajul Islam, Maniruzzaman, Masim, Razzak-2, Kawser, Salek, Abdul Aziz, Akbar, Selim, Hosein, Rashed, Golzer, Adhir Kumar and Gour Chandra were killed by the Pakistani forces and their collaborators in the early morning of November 26 in 1971.
Rahmat Ali Mantu, ex commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsadh Sailkupa upazila unit said, about 42 heroic sons, mostly from village Hazipur under the neighboring Magura district were taking rest in the house of Madhab Chandra Bhowmik after their day’s work.
The spy of the freedom fighters started for Kanna to warn the peace- loving heroes. But unfortunately the messenger was killed when the freedom fighters treated him as a Rajakar (associate of occupying forces). As a result the tired freedom fighters were deprived of the message as the Pakistani forces were scheduled to attack of the FFs in the next morning.
As per the schedule, more than 400 occupying forces had raided the area in the early hours and started opening fire on the freedom fighters. They had ensured killing of the heroic sons chopping them brutally. The brave sons were laid to rst in six mass graves on the south bank of Kumar River near Kamanna high school.
To show respect to the heroic sons, a Shahid Minar was built immediate after independence was in 1972 where the names of 27 were written.
Lutfar Rahman, Rajab Ali and some veteran freedom fighters when contacted, had expressed their dissatisfaction over the treatment to the spot.
They said, after repeated commitments from the district administration and a number of ministers who had paid their visits to Kamanna could not fulfill their promises to make the place as a tourism spots.
