Members of Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested six suspected members of a kidnapping gang at a spot in Dakshinkhan area on Saturday.
The information was disclosed at a briefing on Sunday.
The arrested are Sadekul Islam, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Ali Rifat, Kutub Uddin, Masum Rana and Golam Rabbi.
Detectives busted the ring while investigating abduction case of a businessman, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional commissioner for DB AKM Hafiz Akter.
Anwarul Islam was abducted from Dhaka’s Uttara area on November 29, 2020.
The DB officer said that four to five members of the gang abducted Anwarul and took him into their microbus while he was waiting for a car near House Building area.
They extorted Tk 3.34 lakh from the victim’s family members through mobile financial service for his safe return, the DB official said adding the abductors released him in Uttara later.
This gang abducted at least four persons in the last couple of months, the additional commissioner said.
The arrested are accused in several cases filed with Uttara East, Uttara West and Airport police stations.
