Sylhet district and city Jamaat-e-Islami want to take part in the next parliamentary election placed to be held in late 2018. All preparations in this regard are going on in secret due to administrative obstacles. Hundreds of cases are pending against the party leaders.
Many leaders of Sylhet, Moulvibazar, and Sunamganj Jamaat are working secretly in the field of election after getting green signal from the party high command.
Leaders who have received the green signal are: Principal Maulana Farid Uddin Chowdhury (Sylhet-5 constituency), Maulana Habibur Rah-man (Sylhet-6). Assistant Secretary of Jamaat and Jointapur Upazila Chai-rman Zainal Abedin, central leader of the Bang-ladesh Workers Welfare Federation (Sylhet-4), Jamaat leader Maulana Lokman Ahmed and Saifullah al-Hussein (Sylhet-3), and Sylhet City Ameer Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair (Sylhet-1).
