Police arrested six Indians with 64 kgs of hilsa from Lal Mia Supermarket in Benapole on Friday evening.
The arrestees were identified as Shantanu Das, 40, Biplob Biswas, 31, Tarique Haldar, 28, Dipbindu Sarkar, 28, Mithun Biswas, 26, and Bikas Roy, 32,
residents of Bangaon city in North 24 Parganas district.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive in the border area and arrested the Indians while smuggling the fish to their country, said Mamun Khan, officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station.
A case will be filed in this connection, the OC added.
