A gang was using a bus of Jubo Kalyan Express plying on the Dhaka-Narsingdi highways to loot goods vehicles and goods late at night. During the day, the bus was used to transport passengers normally, but at night, the bus was used for robbery.
The members of the gang were also engaged in various occupations during the day. They used to rob using this bus for one and a half years.
RAB has given this information after arresting six people including the mastermind of the gang that has been robbing on the Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet highways for a long time.
The arrested are identified as Sardar Musa Ali (40), ring leader, Naeem Mia (24), Shamim (35), Roni (26), Abu Sufian (20), Mamun (24).
2 chapatis, a Chinese axe, a knife and a bus used in the robbery were also seized in the drive.
They were arrested from Rupganj and Bandar areas of Narayanganj on Friday. Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Director of the agency’s law and media wing, confirmed the information in a press conference at RAB’s media center in the capital’s Karwan Bazaar on Saturday noon.
During the operation, two robbery victims were rescued and the looted goods were recovered.
Khandaker Al Moin said that the gang of 10 to 12 robbers had been committing robberies regularly on various highways in Sonargaon, Rupganj and Araihazar areas of Narayanganj for several years.
Some of them are garment workers, drivers, assistant drivers, and some are masons and cutting masters in cloth shops.
Although they engaged in different occupations during the day, they participated in robbery at night.
According to RAB conference, the gang was divided into three groups and used to commit robberies. A team collects information about goods trucks and goods vehicles plying on highways in different outfits.
They are the ones who determine the possible location for robbery. The second group followed the goods vehicle after taking the passenger bus on the highway. At convenient places, the members of this circle block the speed of goods transport by that passenger bus.
Later, the driver of the cargo transport and his assistant brought under control and their hands, feet and faces were tied while being taken to the bus. In the third group, the gang leader Musa and other members got stuck with the cargo transport.
