A court in Kurigram on Thursday sentenced 6 persons to life term imprisonment and 20 others including 7 women were acquitted in the sensational Samsul Haque murder case at Phulbari upazila in Kurigram district.
Kurigram Additional District and Session Judge Nur Mohammad Shahrear handed down the verdict in a jam packed court room on Thursday noon.
The convicted are Mozibar Rahman, Bakeotullah, Nazir Hossain,Shafikul Islam,Badsha Miah and Abdul Hakim.Court sources said Samsul Haque was murdered by his rivals on February 10, 2010 about irrigation matter in his land at Bhangamor village under the upazila. Samsul was picked up and beat up and one stage he was chopped to death with an axe.
The nephew of the deceased Aynal filed a murder case accusing 27 numbers on that day.Public Prosecutor (PP) advocate Abraham Lincoln conducted the case on behalf of the state while three lawyers headed by senior advocate ATM Enamul Haque Choudhury Chand stood before the accused.
