A court here yesterday sentenced six persons to life term imprisonment for abducting and killing a fish trader at Chainga village under Roangchhari upazila of the district in 2011.
District and Session Judge M Shafikur Rahman pronounced the verdict.
Court sources said the convicted persons are – Ubaching Marma, 30, Saching Mong Marma, 28, M Rejaul, 29, Monghlaching Marma, 27, Umapru Marma, 26, (fugitive) and U Klahu, 27. All are residents of the same area.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that the convicted persons abducted and killed fish trader Nurul Kabir on March 11, 2011.
Soon after the incident, the victim’s brother Alam filed a murder case with Roangchhari Thana against seven persons.
Police after investigation submitted charge sheet against the seven persons to the court. Later, the judge after examining the witnesses and evidences found the convicted persons guilty and handed down the punishment.
The judge also acquitted one person as the charge of killing brought against him could not be proved.
