Six students of Theater and Performance Studies Department of Dhaka University (DU) was awarded with Professor Zia Hayder Memorial Scholarship for their outstanding academic results and satisfactory development in undergraduate level.
Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, vice-chancellor of the university, distributed the scholarship on Wednesday in a ceremony at Nat Mandal in university.
The students who received the award were Nila Shaha, Atikul Islam, Syeda Ifat Ara, M Mehedi Tanzir, Sanjib Kumar Dey and Tanvir Nahid Khan.
Arefin Siddique said theater has been established as the discipline at university level only for the contribution of few people like Zia Hayder.
He urged the students to bring ahead the practice of theater following the activities and creation in theater of Zia Hayder.
Noted writer and sponsor of the memorial scholarship fund Rashid Hayder gave welcome speech. Noted cultural personality Kamal Lohani also spoke on the occasion while Dr Saiful Islam, Professor of Theater and Performance Department gave vote of thanks.
