Six Bangladeshi fishermen sustained bullet injuries as members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) opened fire on them while catching fish in the Bay of Bengal adjacent to St. Martin’s Island on Tuesday afternoon. Four of the injured were identified as Nur Ahmed, 60, M Osman, 22, M Saiful, 25, and Rafiqul Islam, 35. Sub-inspector Dalim Barua of Saint Martin police camp said a group of fishermen in two boats were netting fish near the St. Martin’s Island in the afternoon. A BGP team intruded into the Bangladesh water territory around 2:30pm and opened fire on the fishermen, leaving six of them injured with bullets, the SI added.The injured fishermen were taken to St. Martin’s Island where army members gave them primary treatment, said Nur Ahmed, chairman of St. Martin Union Parishad. Later, they were sent to SadarHospital for better treatment, the chairman added.
