6 arrested in Dhaka for spreading coronavirus rumours

Staff Reporter: Police on Sunday arrested six persons from different areas in the capital Dhaka in connection with spreading rumours among the people about spreading of the coronavirus in the country.
The arrestees are Awkad Hossain (53), Tawhidul Islam (25), Ferdous Hasan Titu (25), Muslim Uddin (23), Farid Hossain (20) and Mofizul Islam (20).
Police also seized a pick-up van from their possession with a large quantity of leaflets containing misleading and false information.
“A team of law enforcers first arrested Awkad while he was distributing leaflets in front of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Saturday evening. Based on his information, five others were arrested from Dhaka’s Mouchak area,” said Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The arrestees admitted that different groups on 32 pick-up vans are distributing such leaflets in the city.
Police are trying to investigate their aims and objectives of spreading the rumors and to arrest the persons behind it.
Two separate cases were filed against them with Shahbagh and Ramna Police Station.
