6 arrested in bus robbery incident in Cox’s Bazar

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 has arrested six people in connection with a robbery in Phansiakhali area of Cox’s Bazar. The members of the bandits used to do small robberies in the beginning. Later they got together and planned a robbery on the bus. There are 6 members in this band of robbers. At a briefing held at RAB-7’s Chandgaon camp yesterday, RAB-7 commander Lt. Col. Colonel Md. Mashiur Rahman Jewel said.
The arrested are- Md. Yahya Prakash Joynal (28), Chhalim Ullah (33), Chaber Ahmed (29), Abul Kalam (30), Shah Aman Prakash Batu (26) and Mohammad Abdullah (25). They are residents of Cox’s Bazar’s Sadar, Chakaria and Chattogram’s Patenga areas, RAB said. Among them Md. Yahya alias Joynal was the main leader of the bandits.. Lt. Colonel Md. Mashiur Rahman Jewel said the robbery took place in Fansiakhali area of Cox’s Bazar on the night of November 28.
The robbers shot and wounded two passengers and hacked one, taking away money, mobile phones and valuables. A case was filed at Chakaria police station on November 28 over the incident. RAB-7 went down in the shadow investigation and identified the robbers. He said the main culprit of the robbery on Sunday.
We recovered from him a one-shooter gun used in the robbery, one round of ammunition and Ramada. Later, on the information given by him, we raided the Sadar area of Cox’s Bazar and arrested Chhalim Ullah, Saber Ahmed, Abul Kalam and Shah Aman Prakash Batu. Twenty looted mobile phones, a pair of gold pendants, cash and foreign currency were recovered from them.
According to their information, Mohammad Abdullah was arrested from Maheshkhali. One member of their group is on the run.. Lt. Colonel Md. Mashiur Rahman Jewel said they carried out two more raids on the Chattogram -Cox’s Bazar highway on November 5 and 12.
