The Election Commission (EC) has announced 5th phase of municipality polls civic body election’ schedule in which election will be held on February 28 in 31 municipalities.
After a meeting held at Agargaon’s Nirbachan Bhaban, EC’s Senior Secretary Md Alamgir told the journalists on Tuesday evening.
EC Secretary said, the last date of nomination paper submission on February 2, scrutiny on February 4, last date of nomination paper withdrawal on February 11 and symbol allocation on February 12.
The 5th phase municipality’s polls will be held with Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). No public holiday will be declared on the election day, he added.
EC secretary further said, the overall election atmosphere is better than previous civic body polls. The people of the country got accustomed with the him.
The elections to 64 municipalities will be held in the third phase on January 30 while the elections to 56 municipalities on February 14 in the fourth phase.
A total of 62 municipality’s election were held in the second phase on January 15. Of the 62 municipalities, elections of 30 municipalities were conducted through EVM and rest with traditional ballot papers.
Twenty-four municipalities went to polls on December 28 in first phase. All the elections in the first phase were held using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
There are 329 municipalities in the country.
