Some 594 out of total three thousand three hundred repatriates, who returned to Bagerhat district from abroad, are staying in home quarantine, one young man and a young woman in isolation wards as a measure of extra-precaution suspecting them as coronavirus patients.
Besides, two others have been fined by the mobile courts on the charge of not staying in home quarantine. They are Akash Bairagi, 40, son of one Makhan Bairagi of village Charbaria under Chitalmari upazila in the district and Ershad Shaikh, 35, son of one Belayet Shaikh of village Chingri under the same upazila. Both of them retuned home from Oman.
Bagerhat district administration is trying to make those repatriates to stay in home quarantine for 14 days.
Those repatriate returnees, who will not comply with the compulsory home quarantine order, legal action will be taken against them, said Md. Mamunur Rashid, Deputy Commissioner of Bagerhat.
K M Humayun Kabir, Civil Surgeon of Bagerhat said, some 594 repatriates who returned home from the foreign countries are now staying in home quarantine. Two returnees were admitted to isolation wards at Bagerhat Sadar Hospital as their temperature was high.
The Civil Surgeon added, in order to cope with the coronavirus 200 isolation beds were opened at Bagerhat Sadar Hospital and 100 isolation beds were opened in the each of the eight Upazila Health Complexes and their adjacent areas.
Besides, an 11-men strong committee headed by DC, Bagerhat has formed to supervise the overall situation and side-by-side a Rapid Response Team has also been formed with doctors and nurses. The Civil Surgeon requested all to be careful of the coronavirus.
