The distribution of nomination papers for the post of Mayor and councilors of Chittagong City Corporation began from Thursday by the Returning officer.
Chittagong Zonal Election Officer has been appointed as Returning Officer of CCC election. The intending candidates for these post rushed to Election commission office in the city yesterday following the declaration of election schedule on Wednesday last by Chief Election Commissioner.
On first day of the distribution of nomination papers, atleast 59 aspirants including 3 female candidates collected nomination forms from the election commission office in Chittagong, sources said.
E lection fever is prevailing in the port city following the announcement of election schedule. According to s chedule , the last date of submission of nomination paper is March 29 next and allocation of election symbol on April 10 after withdrawal of candidates by April 9, sources said. The CCC election will be held on April 28 as scheduled.
A sources of election commission said the bill boards, posters, banners so erected in city area in favour of the aspirants should be removed within 48 hours otherwise legal actions will be taken against them and there is no scope of any kind of publicity before the allocation of election symbol.
A reliable Awami League sources said Prime Minister has called all intending Mayor candidates at Ganobhaban yesterday evening to finalise the Mayor candidate . Sources said there are a number of Mayor candidates from AL in the port city.
