A total of 587 government colleges, universities and training institutions are going to get high-speed internet connectivity soon.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) with the initiative of Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology would start the implementation of this WiFi connectivity project on December 2 with a cost of Taka 45 crore, said a ministry press release on Thursday. Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar said initially government educational institutions are being brought under high-speed WiFi connectivity with the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Later, all private colleges and universities would be brought under this connectivity in phases, he added.
Of the total educational institutions, 143 is in Dhaka Division, 35 in Mymensingh Division, 137 in Chattogram Division, 45 in Barishal Division, 83 in Khulna Division, 85 in Rajshahi Division, 56 in Rangpur Division and 33 is in Sylhet Division.
The government will provide bandwidth to each educational institution for one year and later the concerned institution has to pay the cost of internet bandwidth.
