5,803 health workers, 625 newsmen infected with coronavirus

A total of 5,803 health workers and 625 newsmen have so far tested positive for coronavirus across the country.
Besides, as many as 625 newsmen of some 148 national and regional newspapers, TV, online media and other platforms were infected with the virus.
Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) said a total of 2055 physicians, 1546 nurses and 2202 other health staffers have been infected with coronavirus since March 8.
At least 68 doctors died so far since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the apex body of physicians.
BMA expressed deep morn and express condolence to the victims’ families saying that the contribution of the physicians in such a condition must not be forgotten.
Meanwhile, at least 16 journalists died in the novel coronavirus infection including a regional newspaper Editor while nine more died with COVID-19 symptoms across the country, since the virus first hit the county.
Newsmen are facing the brunt of the virus infection in the pandemic because of their role of covering events from the frontline, according to a local journalists’ platform titled ‘Our Media, Our Rights’.
Among the total number of infected, some 447 were from capital Dhaka, it added.
The platform of journalists said among the total infected, some 304 made recovery and joined their service so far.
