A total of 5654 hectares of land have been brought under jute cultivation in the six upazilas of Narsingdi district with the production target of 56231 bales in the current season.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources of the total land, Tosa variety would be cultivated on 3138 hectares, Mesta on1360 hectares and local variety on1156 hectares.
DAE sources said farmers of the district are now working round the clock in their field for jute farming and in the meantime they have already cultivated 2650 hectares of land.
Abbas Uddin, Deputy Director Department of Agriculture Extension, Narsingdi told The New Nation that all necessary measures have been taken to boost jute production in the district.
He said during the last two and three years farmers are getting fair price of jute. They are now inspired to cultivate more jute. He hopes that the target of jute cultivation must be exceeded this year. He said if the favorable climate condition is prevailed about 56231 bales of jute expected to produce here in the district.
