56 activists of BNP-Jamaat arrested

Seventeen activists of BNP and Jamaat- e- Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir have been arrested in Barisal city on Monday.
Adv Ali Haidar Babul, joint convener, Md. Shabu and Maruf Hossain, President and Secretary of ward-4 and five other activists of city BNP arrested on Monday.
On other hand, eight activists of Jamaat and one of Shibir also arrested on Monday from different areas of the city.
Abu Sayeed, Assistant Commissioner (detective ) and spokesman of Barisal Metropolitan Police, claimed all of the arrested BNP, Jamaat-Shibir activists were wanted as accused in different cases of sabotage and extortion.
Besides other 33 wanted accused including 8 drug peddlers, gamblers and terrorists and in different cases also arrested on Monday.
Police also recovered 121 pieces Yaba, 10 bottles Phensydil, 250 grams cannabis from the arrestees and all of the arrestees sent to jail, police official told.
Police intensified drives to curb different types of sabotage, criminal activities and attack against law enforcers, ACP of BMP explained as cause of such huge arrests.
UNB from Laxmipur adds: Police in a drive arrested 39 people in connection with different cases and 10 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami on sabotage charges from different places of the district early Tuesday.
A team of police conducted the drive in different areas of five upazilas and Chandraganj thana of the district from Monday night to early Tuesday and arrested the 49 people, said Superintendent of Police Shah Mizan Safiur Rahman.
The 49 people were arrested from Sadar, Raipur, Ramganj, Ramgati and Kamalganj upazilas and Chandraganj thana area, the SP added.
