The government brought 56.67 lakh disadvantaged people under allowances for elderly, destitute, insolvent disabled and disabled students across the country during the current financial year.
“The government is providing elderly allowance to 35 lakh male and female, 12.65 lakh widows are receiving allowance, 8.25 lakh insolvent disabled getting allowance and 80,000 disabled students are receiving stipends during the current financial year,” Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon said this on Monday while replying to a starred question from treasury bench member Momtaj Begum in the Jatiya Sangsad.
