55,400 flood-hit farmers start getting rehabilitation incentives in Gaibandha, Rajshahi

Around 54,696 flood-hit farmers have started getting rehabilitation incentives so that they can recoup their losses.
Of them, each of 9,000 enlisted farmers will get 20 kilograms of seeds, 20 kilograms of DAP and 10 kilograms of MOP fertilizers for wheat farming on at least one bigha of land while each of 9,600 other farmers to get two kilograms of seeds and 20 and 10 kilograms of DAP and MOP respectively for maize farming on one bigha of land.
They will receive around Taka 5.68 crore for purchasing crop-seed, fertilizer and other necessary costs in Rajshahi, Natore, Nawgaon and Chapainawabgonj districts.
According to the zonal office of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), the farmers will get the support for the forthcoming seasons of Rabi and Kharip-1. The government has already allocated the fund. District Agriculture Rehabilitation Committee will execute the programme.
Some 9,000 farmers will get the support for wheat farming, 9,600 farmers for maize farming, 27,500 for mustard farming, 6,400 for mug-bean farming, 2,100 for sesame farming and 96 farmers for cultivation of BT brinjal.
As part of the incentives, the farmers will be given Taka 1.95 crore for seed, Taka 2.37 crore for di ammonium phosphate (DAP) and Taka 7.12 lakh for murate of potash. Besides, they will get Taka 55.19 lakh for transportation and Taka 9.20 lakh for other accessories.
Zonal Deputy Director at DAE here Joynal Abedeen told BSS today that the farmers will be given the support including seeds and fertilizers free of cost so that they can recover their losses caused by recent flood.
He said standing crops on around 94,109 hectares of land were inundated by the recent flood in the four districts.
With the supports, the farmers are expected to cultivate crops like wheat, maize, summer mug bean and mustard on 7,322 bighas of land in the four flood-affected districts. Abedeen said DAE has taken up various steps to recover the losses of crops damaged due to recent flood and river erosion in the region.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: A total of 805 persons got allowance cards from social services office at Sadullapur upazila in the district on Thursday under social safety net programme of the government in 2016-2017 fiscal year.
The allowance cards were distributed to 354 persons with disability, 351 aged persons, and 100 widows of the upazila to help them passing their days without economical hardship, Upazila Social Service officials said.
Each of the persons with disability will get Tk 600 and the widows and aged persons each will receive Tk 500 as grant from the government per month, they said.
A simple function was held at the auditorium of upazila parishad in the afternoon on the occasion with upazila social services officer Ikbal Hossain in the chair.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rahima Khatun formally distributed the cards to the selected beneficiaries as the chief guest and general secretary of upazila Awami League Shahriar Khan Biplob was present at the event as the special guest.
A good number of upazila level officials, public representatives, political leaders and journalists were also present.
