UNB, Dhaka :
State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan on Monday told Parliament that 549 foreign nationals are there in Bangladesh jails as of November 1 this year.
Of them, 393 prisoners are under trial, while 76 are convicted ones, he said replying to a starred question from AKM Mayeedul Islam, MP (Kurigram-3).
The detained foreign nationals are from India, Myanmar, Pakistan, Nepal, Peru, Algeria, Cameroon, Nigeria, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand and Sri Lanka, said Asaduzzaman.
Responding to another starred question from Sanjida Khanam MP (Woman seat-24), the junior minister said the fire service and civil defence stations are in operation in the country’s 175 upazilas.
A process is underway to set up the fire service and civil defence stations in more 306 upazilas under four projects, he told the House.
Of the 306 upazilas, the construction works of the fire service stations are on acquiring lands in 152 upazilas, while a process is underway to acquire lands for the stations in the remaining 154 upazilas, he added.
