The mobile courts of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) yesterday filed 54 cases against different types of vehicles in the city on charges of taking access fare from passengers, not preserving chart of fare, possessing illegal and date-expired driving licenses and not having fitness certificates.
The BRTA mobile courts realized fines amounting to Taka 64,700 from the vehicles on those charges, said an official release.
Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader visited Manik Mian Avenue in the city to see the activities of BRTA monitoring team and mobile courts and special campaign on road safety.
He said, as per the rule, all buses and mini-buses would have to hang charts of fare visibly. Legal actions would be taken against transports realizing access fares from the passengers, he said and sought cooperation of transport owners to stop taking extra fares.
The BRTA recently adjusted fares CNG-run buses and minibuses following gas price hike.
The fares of buses and minibuses in Dhaka and Chittagong have been fixed at Taka 1.70 and 1.60 per kilometer while the lower fares of Taka 7 and Taka 5 remain unchanged.
