A total of 53,253 pilgrims under government and private management from Bangladesh left Dhaka for Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj this year till Tuesday.
For ferrying those pilgrims, both Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Saudi Arabian Airlines operated 145 dedicated flights so far.
Of them, the Biman Bangladesh Airlines had 71 flights while the Saudi Arabian Airlines 74 flights.
“Both the airlines carried 53,253 passengers till Tuesday. Of them 48,649 were under private management and 4606 pilgrims
under government management,” said Tasnim Aktar, Public Relations Manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines to The New Nation.
Meanwhile, five Bangladeshi nationals died in Saudi Arabia so far. One died in Mecca and the rest in Madina.
According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, on Monday Begum Tahmina Nasrin (48), Pilgrim ID No. 1438259 and Passport No. BN0274722 died in Mecca.
The others were M F M Afzal Hossain (65), Pilgrim ID No. 0017143 and Passport No. – BX0369670 from Bogura, Abul Hashem (61), Pilgrim ID No. 0142039 and Passport No. BQ0104414 from Muradnagar of Cumilla, Md. Salzar Rahman (61), Pilgrim ID No. 0752275 and Passport No. BX0265796 from Sonatola of Bogua, and Salim (56), Pilgrim ID No.-1500120 and Passport No. BK0577564 from Pallabi of Dhaka, said the ministry sources.
This year, a total of 127,198 pilgrims will go to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj. Biman will ferry 63,599 pilgrims, 7,198 of them under government mangement and 56,401 will go under private management.
The national flag carrier Biman will use its Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft to transport pilgrims. Regular Jeddah-bound flight will also carry them from Bangladesh. Biman will operate 304 dedicated flights and 61 regular flights to ferry pilgrims to the Kingdom. The first Hajj flight started on July 4 and it will end on August 5. The return Hajj flight will start from August 17 ending on September 15.
