Police arrested two people along with 53,100 fake National Identity (NID) cards from East Dholaipar under Kadamtali thana in the city on Friday noon.
The arrestees were identified as Aminul Islam, 23, and Toufiq Islam, 25.
Tipped off that the duo went to a department store at 175/A, East Dholaipar to sell counterfeit NID cards, to be used in buying mobile phone SIM (Subscriber identity module) cards under fake names, a team of police raided the area and arrested them along with 53,100 pieces of fake NID cards at about 1:00 pm, said Shaheen, sub-inspector of Kadamtali Police Station.
