The 52nd birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed here on Tuesday in a befitting manner. The local district administration and Faridpur Shishu Academy jointly observed the occasion through an elaborate programme. The programme included rally, essay competition and cultural shows.
The rally was followed by a discussion meeting in local Kabi Jasimuddin hall. The discussion meeting was chaired by ADC (Gen) Protap Chandra Biswas while DC Umme Salma Tanzia attended as the chief guest.
While addressing the discussion the speakers condemned the brutal killings of the August 15, 1975 when Bangabandhu along with his most family members and close relatives were brutally murdered. Even the killers did not spare innocent child Russel on that night.
The speakers stressed the need for returning back the fugitives condemned convicts from abroad and executing them. At the end of discussion, a big size cake weighing 52 pounds was cut by the children present in the function. Prizes were also distributed among the competitors of cultural pursuits. In observance of the day, Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner’s Office arranged a children rally and discussion meeting. Divisional Commissioner GM Saleh Uddin formally inaugurated the rally.
DIG of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional Divisional Commissioner (ADC) Muzammel Haque, Additional DIG Dr. Akkas Ali Bhuiyan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Harun-or-Rashid and officers and employees of the office were present.
District Islamic Foundation arranged a separate discussion meeting at its office. Deputy Commissioner Khalilur Rahman addressed the discussion as the chief guest.
Besides, Bangabandhu Shishu Academy district unit held a discussion in Shaheed Abdul Jabbar auditorium. President of the organisation and secretary of the district Awami League Advocate Muazzem Hossain Babul chaired the discussion. Administrator of Zila parishad and president of district Awami League Advocate Zahirul Haque addressed as the chief guest.
