The 50th Victory Day, the most precious day of the Bangalee people, as the country was liberated from the Pakistani occupation 49 years ago a nine-month-long bloodstained War of Liberation was celebrated in Bagerhat district town and it’s all the nine Upazilas on Wednesday through maintaining health rules and social distance in the face of COVID-19 world wide pandemic. The day’s programme was heralded with 21 gun salutes. With the sun rise the national flag was hoisted atop all the public and private buildings of the district town. It was followed with placing of floral wreaths on Muktijoddha Shahid Minar, situated at Dashanir Mor. Floral wreath was ceremonially placed by Md. Mamunur Rashid, DC, Bagerhat on the Shaid Minar on behalf of Bagerhat district administration while the floral wreath was placed by Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super of Bagerhat on behalf of Bagerhat district police administration. Floral wreaths were also placed by Bagerhat district Awami League and its all the front organizations , BNP, Jatio Party, Bagerhat Bar Association, Bagerhat Press Club, different educational institutions and socio-cultural organizations.
A reception ceremony was arranged in the local Sansklritik Foundation in honour of the freedom fighters and the members of those freedom fighters who dedicated their livers in the War of Liberation. A meeting was also held there for the discussion on the significance of the day.
The day’s programme also included supply of improved diets to prisoners in the jail, patients in the hospitals and the orphans in the orphanages, offering the special prayers in the mosques, temples and churches for the salvation of the departed souls of the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives in the Liberation War of 1971.
