Despite the increase of production in the country’s poultry farms, there are still deficit of around 500 crore pieces of eggs against its annual demand, reveals a report of the Department of Livestock Service (DLS).
According to the DLS report, the domestic demand of egg in 2016 was 1674.4 crore pieces. But the local poultry farms produced 1190.24 crore pieces of egg while the demand for more than 483.16 crore pieces (about 29 per cent), remained shortfall.
An entrepreneur class has been developed here in the country with the increase of socio- economic progress in the rural and urban areas. As a result, the demand for protein and of quality food also rose, added the research report.
Talking with The New Nation, Director General of DLS Dr. Md. Ainul Haque said the government is trying to increase the availability of 104 pieces of egg per person by the year 2021.
He said, the government is also trying to produce egg at a lower cost and set up poultry farms in easy ways, besides awareness will also be build up about negative propaganda against taking eggs.
“Egg will not only fill up the deficit of protein, it has also multi-level nutrition. Taking egg regularly will help reduce
the risk of type-2 diabetes, brest cancer and weight,” he said.
A research of Veterinary and Animals Science Department of Share-e-Bangla Agriculture University has shown that risk of type-2 diabetes will reduce by 37 per cent if four eggs are taken per week.
Eating six eggs per week will reduce the risk of breast cancer by 40 per cent and only two eggs in a week will meet the demand of women, the research said.
In an egg, there is Vitamin A, E, B6, B12, Flu let and phosphorus. Besides, an egg has all kind of calcium, Iron, Zink, Manganese, selenium, thiamin, aminoacidemia and pantothenic acid.
 The egg also makes sharp the eye cite, protect lutein and Zeaxanthin in human body that cause aged, added the report.
