Members of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police seized 50,000 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets worth about Tk 90 lakh from a Pajero Jeep in city’s Segunbagicha area on Sunday night.
An alleged drug peddler identified as Yusuf Hossain, 30, was arrested in this connection.
Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman said, “Tipped off, a team of DB conducted a drive at Segunbagicha area near Shilpakala Academy and intercepted the Pajero Jeep around 8.45pm.”
Police caught Yusuf red-handed while selling the contraband tablets, the DC said.
The arrested person admitted during interrogation that he was involved in international drug peddler gang, he said.
A case was filed with Ramna Police Station in this connection, he added.
