Staff Reporter :At least 50,000 babies are born every year with heart diseases in the country. Some child cardiac physicians disclosed the information in a press conference held in the auditorium of Central Hospital in the capital recently.Forty percent of them belong to low income family and their guardians are unable to bear the treatment cost. . For this reason, the physicians decided to form a trust to help the poor section of people.In the press briefing, National Professor Dr MR Khan announced the inauguration of the trust named ‘Child Heart Trust Bangladesh-CHTB,’ of which he is the chairman.In his speech, MR Khan said, as child heart disease rate has been increasing in the country and the treatment cost is sumptuous, many parents can not afford it. For this reason, the physicians decided to form a trust to help them.The trust is wholly committed to giving free treatment to the poor and the doctors have a plan to establish a specialised child heart hospital in future.MR Khan requested everyone to donate money for the impoverished parents who want to continue their children’s treatment. In another speech, pediatric cardiologist Dr Nurun Nahar Fatema said, the trust will also bring the experts’ facilities from abroad to cover the vacuum of physicians in this arena.”This is the high time to come forward for fighting the disease and the government should give priority to it for the sake helping babies to survive,” said Dr ABM Abdus Salam, Secretary General of the trust.
