A total of 5,000 personnel of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will be deployed in the upcoming Dhaka and Chittagong City Corporation’s polls scheduled on April 28.
“Some 268 patrolling teams will be working in the 134 wards in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) during the polls.
“Besides, 134 motorcycle teams, 134 plain-clothes detective police teams, and 36 striking forces will be deployed in these wards during the election.”
Director General of RAB Benazir Ahmed made the statement while addressing a press conference at RAB’s headquarters in the capital Uttara on Sunday morning.
He said: “GPRS system will be mounted in all the vehicles that will be used during the City Corporation elections which will be tracked in the headquarters.”
“With the help of the system, vehicles will be able to join the nearby forces if any problem occurs there,” he added.
The DG also said RAB will only be acting as a supporting force but they can give extra support if demanded by any Returning Officer. The RAB boss said the elite force will try to ensure festive environment of voting thwarting anarchy and electoral poll conduct violation.
A total of 6,029,576 voters, however, will cast their votes, indicating that a law enforcement person against some 76 voters will remain posted during the polls.
