A total of 5,000 flood affected families of four upazilas in the district got family kits and plastic sheets from Unicef in last few days to mitigate their sufferings caused by natural calamity.
The family kits and plastic sheets were distributed among the flood victims of Sundarganj, Sadar, Fulchhari and Shaghata upazilas in the district through upazila and district administrations with the involvement of local government bodies.
To minimize their sufferings the United Nations Children’s Fund, stood beside flood hit people and took an initiative to distribute the family kits and plastic sheets as relief to flood affected families of the upazilas as part of social corporate responsibility.
Accordingly, family kits and plastic sheets were distributed among 500 flood hit families in six unions of Sadar upazila, 1,500 at seven unions in Sundarganj upazila, 1,000 at two unions in Shaghata upazila and 2,000 at six unions in Fulchhari upazila during the period. Each of the beneficiary family received a cartoon of 18 items including plastic bucket, plate, mug, jerry can, large spoon, cooking utensils, sari, lungi, gamchha, bed sheet, rope, soap, table spoon, candle and plastic sheet.
Deputy Commissioner M. Ehsan-e-Elahi formally inaugurated the relief activities of Unicef on the bank of river Ghagot here on Sunday as the chief guest. Deputy director of local government section of DC office Moklesur Rahman, Sadar UNO Ashraful Momin Khan, programme, planning and monitoring officer of Unicef Bangladesh Parvin Begum, assistant commissioner Abu Sufian and journalists were present on the occasion.
