More than 500 goods-laden trucks have become stranded at the Paturia-Daulatdia ferry terminal due to heavy traffic as ferry services on the Padma River’s Shimulia-Kathalbari route have been suspended.
About 500 loaded trucks were seen waiting at the Paturia-Daulatdia ferry terminal to cross the Padma River around 11am on Thursday, reports this correspondent.
Buses and cars are being transported on a priority basis due to which many trucks have been left stranded at the ferry terminal.
Basudev Sinha, in-Charge of Barongail Highway police outpost, said: “Buses and cars are being transported on a priority basis, as a result, many trucks have become stranded in the Uthuli area. After transporting buses and cars, trucks will be transported.”
“18 ferries out 19 are currently operating but many loaded trucks are waiting in queues to cross the Padma. The ferry Banalata is out of order but it is being repaired,” said Md Salam Hossain, manager of Paturia Ferry Ghat of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).
