UNB, Dhaka :
The Russian designer of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project has so far conducted more than 50 tests and studies at the site as prerequisite to start the physical works on the crucial project.
“We’re steadily moving forward and our works are represented by the thick volumes of reports and research findings. Our experts have already conducted over 50 tests and studies at the project site and in the country,” Valery I Limarenko, President of JSC NIAEP-holding Company of JSC Atomstroyexport (JSC ASE), told UNB in an online interview.
The Russian company has been assigned for designing the whole Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project.
Valery said, all the studies and researches have been carried out aiming to prepare a proper feasibility study report and submit it for the approval by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission.
He said, their joint company is the leader in the nuclear engineering business, providing services for design, construction and decommissioning of nuclear power plants both in Russia and abroad.
The company accounts for more than a third of the global market of design and construction of nuclear power plants.
The NIAEP-ASE chief said that their Russian and Bangladeshi partners are interested in ensuring that all works will be conducted at the shortest possible time, always proving compliance with all necessary safety requirements.
“The results speak for themselves – our company has managed to complete the tasks related to the delivery of facilities in time in Russia, China and India. Also it has met the construction schedules of new NPPs at other sites”.
He said, the current preparatory stage of Rooppur NPP is intended precisely to give a clear and detailed answer to the question of seismic hazard. According to new strict ‘post-Fukushima’ requirements, modern NPPs withstand earthquakes with a maximum horizontal acceleration at the ground level equal to 0.3 g or 9 points by the MSK-64 scale.
