At least 50 shanties were gutted as a fire broke out in a slum at Amin Jute Mills area in the port city early Sunday.
Jasimuddin, Deputy Assistant Director of Chittagong Fire Service, said the fire originated from electric short circuit in a shanty at Shantinagar colony in the area around 3:30am and spread to the adjoining shanties.
On information, three fire fighting units from Bayezid fire station rushed in and doused the flames after almost two hours of frantic efforts.
However, no casualties were reported in the incident of fire.
