At least 50 garment workers were injured in a fire panic at a factory in Dakkhin Salna area of the city on Monday morning.
Md Hasibul Islam, station officer of Joydevpur Fire Station, said panic ensued among the workers following sparkling in an electric line on the 2nd floor of the six-storey building housing ‘Beckon Knitwear Ltd’ in the area around 9 am. As the panic spread around, workers started to scramble down the stairs, leaving 50 of them injured. The injured were first taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital from where five were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital.
