More than 50 government primary schools under Mirzaganj Upazila are running without headmasters for long.
Acting headmasters are performing over all activities of the schools. As a result, students are being deprived of standard education.
If the posts of headmasters are not fulfilled on an urgent basis, the primary educations system may face serious setback in the region, opined guardians and concerned corners.
The complicated appointment procedure or recruiting teachers through recommendation of Public Service Commission (PSC) has resulted in the current crisis.
In absence of headmasters, assistant teachers are performing both administrative and academic activities. In many schools, only one or two teachers run all the activities, though the posts have been lying vacant for long.
Students and guardians of those schools are deeply concerned pertaining to deteriorating academic standard and poor quality of education.
Out of 142 schools, posts of headmasters and teachers at more than 100 schools have been lying vacant for long. While visiting the schools, this correspondent came to know that year after year, recruitment process of headmasters and assistant teachers at the schools has remained pending.
More than 50 schools including Uttar Chatra Govt. Primary School, Uttar Mirzaganj Govt. Primary School, Kalagachia Govt. Primary School, Bhajna Monoharkhali Govt. Primary School, Mendiabad Govt. Primary School, Uttar Paschim Subidkhali Govt. Primary School, and Dakkhin Mirzaganj Govt. Primary School are running without headmasters for long.
Acting Headmster at Uttar Chatra Govt. Primary School Sanjay Das said, “There are more than 150 students at the school. I and another assistant teacher are running all the activities. When I have to go to different places for official and other purposes, the school is run by one teacher only”.
Amzad Hawlader, father of Rubina Aktar, and Anwar Hossain, father of Shahidul Islam, both students of class five at the school alleged that since there is no other school nearby, they have been compelled to sent heir kids there.
When asked about the on-going frustrating scenario, Upazilla Education Officer Mizanur Rahman replied that promotion to the posts of headmaster and appointment of assistant teacher will resolve the problem.
