UP elections: 50 polling centers ‘risky’ in Sylhet Sadar UZ

Police administration has identified at least 50 polling centres in eight unions of Sadar upazila as risky in the union parishad (UP) elections to be held on March 22.
Rahmat Ullah, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, said 50 polling centers out of 95, in Sadar upazila have been found vulnerable while the rest 45 centres are general,
Special security measures have been taken for those risky polling centers,
As per instruction of Election Commission, three policemen are to be deployed in each of the polling centres but the SMP decided to deploy six policemen in each, he added.
Besides, a mobile team of police will be deployed for three centres each while a striking force will be deployed in each union, said the deputy commissioner of Sylhet Joinal Abedin .
Border Guard Bangladesh, Rapid Action Battalion and ansar members will be on duty alongside police for maintaining law and order on the day, he said.
Rahmat Ullah said a special striking force will perform their duties round the clock.
Some 2,7370 people will cast their votes in the eight unions of Sadar upazila, which will go to polls on March 22.
.The unions are–Khadimpara, Khadimnagar, Tultikor, Tukernazar, Jalalabad, Hatkhola, Moglgaon and Kandirgaon.

under the Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) was closed on Thursday night.
Confirming the matter Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-Media) of SMP Rahmat Ullah said Nurul Alam was transformed from the police station to the police line for the administrative reasons.
No one was appointed to the post till Friday evening, he added.
AL expels rebel candidates
The Awami League has expelled Five rebel candidates of the party trying to contest upcoming UP polls in Sylhet Sadar.
Of those who defied the party’s decision, Five were contesting for position of chairman in Sylhet Sadar Upazilas.
They have been expelled for breaching party discipline, said Awami League Sylhet district’s deputy office secretary Joglu Chowdhury.
The party’s district unit took the decision at an emergency meeting on Friday night, he Said. Awami League decided to field single candidates in these polls. Its President Sheikh Hasina also pitched for the same.
Those expelled are Kandigawn Union chairman candidate Sajjad Miha, jalalabad chairman candidate Monfor Ali, Tultikor Union chairman candidate Ali Hossain, Khadim para Union chairman candidate Afsor Ahmed, Moglagawn Union chairman candidate Samsul Islam Tunu.

With only 2days to the UP Polls, preparations are almost at the final stage.
The Election Commission Friday starts a two-day training for the 1,957 officials, selected to serve as presiding officers and polling officers. It will be held at the city’s Shahporan High School.
Upazila Election Officer of Sadar Upazilla Tanzida Afrin Chhonda said, 80 aspirants have submitted nominations for the chairmanship, 359 for the ward member and 91 for the Female ward member positions.

An eight-member vigilance team headed by the deputy election commissioner has been working to look into the complaints on the election rules violation.
