Tk 4000 cr to be spent in two phases: 50 more power sub-stations on cards to expand power network in Chattogram

The Power Development Board (PDB), Chattogram has taken a scheme to set up 50 new power sub-stations by 2022 totaling 102 in that chapter to boost power production. The projects are estimated to cost approximately Tk 4000 crores.
Of the two projects, first project, which includes 14 sub-stations, is set to finish by June of 2019. However, the second one, which includes 36 sub-stations, is set to finish by December of 2022.
The construction work of first project has already started.PDB power demand increases 8-10% each year in Chattogram.Currently, PDB has 10 lakh customers while Palli Bidyut Samity has 10 lakhs too. 800 megawatt electricity is supplied through 52 sub-stations, but there is a demand of 1100 megawatt more electricity. These new projects will be set up at Kalpalok residential area in city, Annayna R/A, Maijertek, Rahmatgonj, Mansurabad, Oxygen, Kalurghat, Asian Women university, Ananda Bazar, Kattali, Madambibir hat, Sandwip, in Chattogram and Bandaban m Ramu in Cox’sBazar.
 Besides, four existing power sub s tations will be modernized with more power supply capacity. These 4 substations include Bakalia, Khushi, Hathazar and Chowkaria.
 In the meantime, the work of Sandwip sub station already completed and power supply resumes on experimental basis recently.
 Sources said the works second phase of power section at a cost of Tk.2,600 cr will begin from 2019 aimed at completion by next 3 years.
