About 50 lakhs people of 68 Union of nine upazilas in southern Khulna have been receiving digital service through Union Digital Center (UDC).
A total of 138 people including women, who have received the training on Information Communication and Technology (ICT) with government assistance, are serving the people with their acquired knowledge, Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Nazmul Ahsan told.
“We provide the training on ICT to build up the participants’ capacity of managing information system and uploading the all activities of the UDC through software” he added.
However the training recipients are now becoming entrepreneur of computer lab while some of them already have been appointed at UDC and earning money to change their livelihoods.
A training recipient Abdul Kader Biswas said, I completed a computer course with my father’s inspiration after SSC examination and joined at my brother’s computer lab. But after completing the training on ICT, I have been appointed at UDC as well as me now also an owner of three computer labs.
He also said the ICT training make the youth generation economically self-reliant while my monthly income is about Tk 40 thousands.
While visiting different UDC at Dumuria upazila it was found that the training beneficiaries are providing the services of paying electricity bill, mobile banking, online birth registrations and death certificate, result of public examinations, online university admission system, land record, filling up different online form along with agriculture and health.
Another training participant Razu Biswas also a businessman said hundreds of people are receiving online service through UDC every day at low cost.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Dumuria upazila Sifat Mehnaz, however, said government has set a replicable example on using ICT to serve the people.
The unemployed youths are now being appointed at different UDCs after receiving training on ICT which help them to be economically self reliance and to continue their study as well.
