Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan has said that 50 kilometer walkway would be constructed at the banks of three rivers , Buriganga, Turag and Shitalakshya, in a bid to protect and recover occupied land in Tongi.
The minister said, out of the planned walkway 20 kilometer has already been constructed is open for the public.
“Awami League government believes in development while BNP-Jamaat engage in conspiracy to drag the country behind through destruction,” he said yesterday while speaking at an inaugural function of 5.46km constructed walkway, the last slot of the 20 kilometers walkway, a press release said yesterday.
“Awami League does not believe in petrol bomb democracy” the minister said. Chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Commodore M Mozammel Haque presided over the function while local lawmaker Zahid Ahsan Rasel, member of BIWTA Engineer Rafiqul Haque and local leaders also addressed the function.
The BIWTA constructed 5.46km walkway at Tongi area by spending Taka 20.06 core. The present government will finish the rest of the walkway in the next four years.
