At least 50 people were injured in a clash between two groups of transport workers in Sylhet on Tuesday afternoon.
Local sources said that a group of transport workers staged a demonstration in front of their office at Kodamtoli in Dakshin Surma in the city, protesting against an alleged misappropriation of fund of around Tk 2 crore from the welfare fund by President Selim Ahmad Falik.
Angry protesters said that they would not allow Selim to enter the office until he repaid the money. On the other hand, supporters of Selim began clash with the rival group workers around 4:00pm that left more than 50 injured from both groups, eyewitnesses said.
Khirul Fazal, Officer-in-Charge of Dakshin Surma Police confirmed the matter to the media that police brought the situation under control around 5:00pm after firing rubber bullets and teargas shells.
Extra law enforcers have been deployed in the terminal and its adjoining area to avert further clash, the police officer said.
